In what is likely to be remembered as one of the most exciting finals in Greek basketball, Piraeus-based Olympiacos defeated their archrivals Panathinaikos 81-82 at the OAKA stadium on Monday evening after double overtime.
The game came to a dramatic end with Olympiacos captain Vasilis Spanoulis clinching the win for his team with a 3pt buzzer beater in the final seconds of the game.
Monday’s final was also the last game in the career of Panathinaikos captain Dimitris Diamantidis in front of about 20,000 fans who filled the stadium and gave him a standing ovation.
Spanoulis was the man of the moment sinking a 3 point shot in the last second of the 2nd extra period giving his team the win and second championship in a row.
