Athens Open Air Film Festival 2016 turns six this summer, kicking off on June 21 with the projection of the 80’s blockbuster “Purple rain” (1984), a movie by Albert Magnoli. This is the first time in three decades that the film will be projected in Greece, both as a tribute to Prince and to celebrate European Music Day. The Greek tourism organisation is sponsoring the event for the fourth year, while the City of Athens Culture, Sport and Youth organisation will also contribute.
This year, the 6th Athens Open Air Film Festival is cooperating with the British embassy and the British Council and participating in the international celebration marking the 400th anniversary since William Shakespeare’s death. Six films inspired by Shakespeare’s plays will form a tribute to the great British dramatist, called “Shakespeare in the City”.
The festival will take place from June to September, projecting more than twenty movies with free entrance. Squares, museums and open air cinemas will host the events.
