Anemi Jazz Festival launched in Folegandros island on July 28-30

This summer music invites us to the Greek island of Folegandros, with the Anemi Jazz Festival on July 28-30 aiming to become a special opportunity to bring people closer.

As the organizers note, Folegandros is a mere 32 square kilometers of land in the sea but you can find countless reasons to fall in love with it. A unique island offering the perfect setting not only for carefree holidays but also for inspiration and creation.

This small island of the barren line located in the southwestern Cyclades, is turned this July into the center of a music festival.

It is first time that a jazz festival with a Greek character and the participation of the elite of the Greek Jazz scene has been hosted on the magnificent island of Folegandros, giving the chance to the visitors to enjoy live performances with their favorite artists.

Over the last years, a number of eminent musicians, with admirable international careers, have emerged from the Greek jazz scene.  Some of the best-known and most accomplished Greek mucisians, namely Petros Klampanis, Christos Rafalides, Spyros Manesis and Thomas Konstantinou are gathering for the first time on July 28th and 29th on this small island in the heart of the Aegean for two special concerts.

On the first night, July 28th, fans will enjoy on site at the Anemi Hotel Petros Klambanis and Christos Rafailides two well-known and internationally distinguished Greek musicians in a project entitled Point Τwo, while on the second night, July 29th, the eminent singer, Dimitra Galani is presenting in Punta, Chora, the Chronos Project, an innovative performance highlighting the Greek music culture and the influence it has received from both the East and the West.

The following day, July 30th, on the occasion of this concert, a public speech will be delivered in Chora at the local school, about how the Chronos Project was created, what influences Greek music has received from the West and the East and to what extent the Greek song has been determined by our great poets. The four musicians and Mrs Galani will be the guest speakers.

ChronosProject in brief

The encounter of the eminent Greek singer Dimitra Galani with a quartet of exceptional Greek musicians whose central axis consists of songs written by our leading poets and composers. The band’s instrumentations uniquely show off the influence of the East and the West on Greek music.

Petros Klampanis ( contrabass), Thomas Konstantinou (oud, lute and guitar), Spyros Manesis (piano), Christos Rafalides (vibraphone) become a ” single body” with Dimitra Galani who leads the performance.” The singer here encapsulates the history of the Greek song as she is also a part of it, having been taught by these highly acclaimed artists since her first steps. Functioning as a link, she connects the past with the present. Chronos, in this unique performance, is in a way Dimitra Galani herself. Chronos actually represents those songs that we always need to recall in order to redefine our culture.

About Point Two

Point Two is the latest project of two prominent jazz musicians with global experience, Christos Rafalides and Petros Klampanis. In light of their own experiences, they will perform their own compositions as well as remakes from “The Great American Songbook”. A balanced dynamic among lyricism, passion, knowledge and skill is what the two Greek / Yorker musicians promise.

Christos Rafalides is a leading vibraphonist and composer, the founder of the band the “Manhattan Vibe”  while Petros Klampanis has been distinguished as one of the most talented Greek contrabassists and composers. The two renowned musicians have also appeared on world-famous stages as well as popular USA festivals, namely the Blue Note, the Lincoln Center, the Carnegie Hall and so on.

Giorgos Mouchtaridis from Pepper 96,6 will close the festival, playing lounge music, soundtracks and jazz.
