Two rocks from the site of ancient Olympia are on public display in a special glass show case in the Rio Olympic village.
The rocks, which were placed in the glass case during a ceremony organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), are dedicated to athletes that lost their lives during past Olympic Games. During the ceremony, IOC President Thomas Bach thanked Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos while he lauded Greece’s contribution to the Olympic movement.
A minute’s silence was observed in memory of the athletes that were killed.
The ceremony was attended by the head of the Greek team, Isidoros Kouvelos, as well as the President of the Greek Olympic Committee, Spyros Kapralos.
