New school year officially begins in Greece on Monday morning

Thousands of students return to school in Greece on Monday, as the new school year officially begins today, with the Ministry of Education underlining that everything has been planned and arranged so that books and teachers are waiting students at schools.

As is customary, many of the country’s political leaders will visit schools. As such the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos will visit a school in Nikea and Egaleo. The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was planning to visit a school on Kefalonia, however the visit was cancelled so that he may visit the fire stricken island of Thasos.

The leader of the main opposition Kyriakos Mitsotakis has arranged to vsit a school in Perama, while the General Secretary of the Communist Party Dimitris Koutsoumpas will visit a school in Kerasiani. The Minister of Education Nikos Filis along with the Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis will visit a school in Grava.

Finally, the Archbishop of Athens Ieronymos will attend the blessing ceremony at a religious school in Ilioupoli.
