The Greek Ministry of Culture congratulated the new board of the International Association for the Reunification of the Parthenon Marbles, elected during a meeting of all the national committees on Monday.
The new board consists of Louis Godart, President (Italy), Anna Marangou, Vice President (Cyprus), Paul Cartledge, Vice President (United Kingdom), Matthew Taylor, Vice President (Canada), George Vardas, Secretary (Australia) and Andrew George, Treasurer (United Kingdom).
Godart, beyond his role as an advisor of the Italian President on Cultural issues, is a renowned researcher of Egyptian archaeology, while he has specialized in issues of the Linear A and B.
“As a friend and supporter of Greece, we believe he [Godart] will be essential in intensifying efforts for the return of the Parthenon Marbles. We wish the new board every success to and assure them that both the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and the Special Advisory Commission on the return of the Parthenon Marbles will be on their side and always assist their work,” the ministry said in a press release.
