“New Horizons in Painting” exhibition at Frissiras Museum in Plaka, Athens

As part of the “New Horizons” trilogy, the Frissiras Museum presents the “New Horizons in Painting I” exhibition, under the title “The identities of others”. The first part of the exhibition will be presented during the period January – June 2017.

The exhibition was launched on January 18 with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

In this first part, each artist approaches the concept of identity in their own way, expressing both individual as well as collective concerns. The construction of our identity, the “Enemy in the Other”, the characteristics that bring acceptance or rejection encounter art.

“The artist depicts the “Other” with its particular characteristics aiming to highlight the various identities and losing the respective stereotypes. Thus, through art, the “Other” can become familiar and part of our reality. In this report, each artist wanted to deal with these issues in their own style, focusing on different aspects of the concept of identity and presenting them with their personal morphoplastic vocabulary” writes Ellie Leventakis, on the exhibition.

The artists participating in the exhibition are: Teodora Axente, Norbert Bisky, Stephen Chambers, Viola Głowacka, Bogumił Książek, Li Ji, Frédérique Loutz, Marcin Maciejowski, Florian Merkel, Brann Renaud, Ewa Szczekan, Alexander Tinei, Verebics Ágnes, Constantine Vavylousakis Yannis Ziogas, Christos Michaelides and Ismene Teligioridou.

The exhibition will last until June 30, 2017.
