Family of deceased Greek filmmaker Koundouros rejects state-funded funeral

The family of acclaimed film director Nikos Koundouros, who passed away earlier this week, rejected a proposal by Interior Minister Panos Skourletis to hold his funeral at public expense, saying they prefer to cover the expenses themselves, “Kathimerini” newspaper reported on Sunday.

According to the paper, the family said it does not want to burden public finances and thanked the minister for proposing the honour. The filmmaker died in hospital on Wednesday after a long bout of ill health, aged 90.
