The 1st En Lefko Film Festival will take place from April 26-May 3, with showings at the Ideal and Danaos cinemas, as well as in specific “corners” of the city, also featuring many surprising events.
During a press conference, the festival’s artistic director, Sakis Tsitomenas, along with the event’s full organizing team, stated the festival’s goal as being to “inaugurate a new, Spring celebration of cinema, aiming to overcome the constraints between different cinematic genres, introducing us to the hottest new things in cinema and television, and launching an open debate on artistic expression and entertainment.”
The festival’s seven sections (Under the Radar, Red Carpet, On Air, Small Screen on Big Screen, Get Creative, Homages, Midnight Thrills) will feature more than 50 movies. The opening ceremony will take place on April 26th at the Athens College Theater, with James Gray’s “The Lost City of Z”, based on the true story of David Fawcett, whose journey to the Amazon uncovered impressive findings from the life of an unexplored, extremely developed civilization, probably living in the area (Admission by invitation).
The “Under the Radar” section features 11 films, previously shown at international festivals, being screened and in competition for a 5,000€ prize, to be awarded directly by the festival’s audience to the winning film. Among the films in competition is the Greek romantic comedy “Afterlove”, by Stergios Paschos. In competition in the “On Air” contest will be 6 musical documentaries, laying claim to a 2,000€ prize. The Festival also includes a section of TV shows (classic and new) being given a theatrical release.
