The Israeli Cinema Week returns to Athens for the 5th time from May 3-7, 2017, in the hospitable Greek Film Archive, offering a rare opportunity for Greek filmmakers to get acquainted with contemporary Israeli cinema.
The opening, on May 3, will feature the premiere of Yari Muker’s “Ben Gurion, Epilogue”. The documentary film, based on a recently discovered six-hour interview, traces the personality of David Ben Gurion, the founder of the state of Israel, who was the country’s PrimeMinister for 14 years. The film’s producer and editor, Yael Perlov, will attend the screening and discuss with the audience.
The tribute’s ambition is to showcase modern Israeli cinema’ diversity, while also highlighting a new generation of Arab-speaking filmmakers who have dynamically come to the fore in recent years.
The aim is to see Israel beyond stereotypes, through films that cover a wide range of themes: from the coexistence of Jews and Arabs, to the effects of the Holocaust, and time-old universal issues such as loss and love.
