Council of Europe adopts convention to fight cultural destruction

The Council of Europe (CoE) adopted today a new criminal law convention to prevent and combat illicit trafficking and the destruction of cultural property. The new treaty will be opened for signature in Nicosia, on May 19 and any country in the world will be able to accede.

According to a CoE announcement, the Convention on Offences relating to Cultural Property aims to foster international co-operation to fight crimes, which are destroying the world’s cultural heritage.
