Concerts, movie screenings, reading of fairy tales, workshops, ice-skating and many other daily events are taking place at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens throughout December until the first days of the new year.
Music could not be missing from the Christmas World of the SNFCC. The first concert was given by Simon Bolivar Trumpet Ensemble, while a few days later, the young musicians of El Sistema Greece performed music by Mozart, Verdi, Morricone and many other composers. On 18 and 19/12, Greek National Opera’s Stavros Niarchos Hall is hosting a panoramic survey of music from the films of Harry Potter, our favorite sorcerer. Moreover, cross-cultural children’s choir Polyphonica, mixed adult choir Musica and Camerata Junior string orchestra are giving a concert on 23/12 at the Lighthouse, beaming us to different parts of the world. In the morning of New Year, at Stavros Niarchos Hall, the audience will be able to enjoy the all-time classic New Year’s Concert of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Movie-going is an integral part of the holiday season, and Greek National Opera’s Stavros Niarchos Hall is steeped in Christmas atmosphere, with screenings of timeless films suited to the whole family. Our beloved nanny Mary Poppins, Snow White, perennial child Peter Pan, Cinderella, the Von Trapp family from The Sound of Music – they are all here to remind us why we love Christmas. Many other events will also take place in December, while festive delicacies, such as “melomakarono”, “kourabies”, hot chocolate and also ordinary meals will be served to visitors.
