The creation of a European authority to monitor and protect cultural heritage sites at risk was proposed on Friday by Alternate Foreign Affairs Minister Sia Anagnostopoulou during a Paris meeting of EU ministers of European affairs and culture, according to ANA.
This agency could be based in Greece, Anagnostopoulou pointed out, and elaborated that it could provide funding for the protection, maintenance and restoration of European monuments through sales revenues of monuments and sites. She cited as a model for the fund the Archaeological Resources Fund (ΤΑPΑ) in Greece, and said this kind of funding would remain fiscally neutral in Eu countries’ state budgets.
