An important find came to light on December 16, at the agora of ancient Epidaurus – a life-size marble female statue that is still in good condition, greekcitytimes.com reports.
The statue was discovered intact, with the exception of the arms and head, which probably broke from a drop, SKAI reported.
The statue depicts a woman wearing a robe that is fastened to her left shoulder and arm.
A first assessment places the statue to being crafted during imperial Roman times.
The statue was transferred to a warehouse in the Asclepieion for storage, cleaning, and maintenance.
Even though the annual excavation period is over, the heavy rainfall revealed a small part of the back of the statue, hence revealing it.
With this discovery, the area was immediately excavated.
