Free Athens Acropolis Museum entry on Wednesday

The Acropolis Museum in the Greek capital has organized a number of events for visitors to mark the celebrations, including this year’s European Night of Museums (May 14, which has already passed, and International Museum Day (May 18), greekcitytimes.com reports.

European Night of Museums

On Saturday, May 14, the museum participated in the European Night of Museums with extended opening hours – from 8am until 12 midnight – and free entry from 8 pm onwards.

The museum’s restaurant stayed open during the same hours.

Visitors were able to admire the masterpieces of the museum’s collections by night. At the same time, on the same day, within the context of the initiative “What does the Acropolis Museum mean to you?”, the most representative answers of visitors received recently by the museum will be projected on a big screen.

International Museum Day

On Wednesday, May 18, the Acropolis Museum will celebrate International Museum Day by offering free entry to its visitors from 8 am to 8 pm.

This year’s topic is the “Power of museums” focusing on achieving sustainability, innovation, digitalization, and accessibility.

On this occasion, the museum will offer to its adult visitors two new gallery talks: The “Hidden stories of the diaspora” (available in Greek and in English) and the “Digital Acropolis Museum”.

In addition, the new family trial titled “The Parthenon Sculptures. 6 short stories of separation” will be available for children and their parents.
