The renovated and expanded National Gallery in Athens has created a new Western European Art exhibition space where, among other works, will be displayed Dutch modernist Piet Mondrian’s “Stammer Windmill with Summer House” (pictured) and Pablo Picasso’s “Head of a Woman” both stolen from the Gallery in 2012 and recovered in 2021, ekathimerini.com reports.
Mondrian’s painting dates from 1905, before the start of his famous geometric period. Picasso painted “Head of a Woman” in 1939. Ten years later, he offered the work to the Greek people to honor their contribution to the resistance under the Nazi occupation.
