China and Greece join forces to create mutual learning model between cultures

The Chinese culture has a long history, while Greek culture has a wide and great influence. Throughout history, our cultures have been at the two ends of the Eurasian continent, and with mutual admiration, they have always learned from each other and complemented each other, Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Xiao Junzheng, noted in an article to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).

According to Xiao Junzheng, “the golden age of ancient Greece which gave birth to many philosophers and men of letters coincided in time with the period of China’s “Hundred Schools of Thought”. The great Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis who visited China twice said that “Confucius and Socrates are two masks that cover the same face of human reason”. Our similar ideas and cultures, reflected in our exchanges, present to the world the harmony and beauty of mutual learning, mutual understanding, and friendship. During his visit to Greece in 2019, both President Xi Jinping and the Greek leadership supported exchanges and mutual learning between cultures. Subsequently, the two sides actively implemented the consensus reached, starting preparations for the establishment of the Ancient Greek and Chinese Culture Centre. In the spring of 2020, the Greek Ministry of Education undertook the organization and coordination between the University of Athens, the University of Patras, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the University of Crete for the preparation and establishment of the Greek section of the Centre.”
