Creative meeting of culture and circular economy in the Municipality of Platanias

A different, contemporary look at the material culture of Crete is offered by the Periplus Project research program, hosted in the Municipality of Platanias. Two international teams of talented product designers, architects and artists – selected from some of the world’s leading universities – are currently in Crete, exploring the possibilities created by the circular economy and the exploitation of local tradition with modern tools.

Inspired by the uniqueness of nature and the richness of the material heritage of the place, the participants experiment by creating original materials, ideas and approaches that can fuel primary entrepreneurship and the sustainable management of the region’s cultural resources.

The second international team will present the results of their work on Wednesday, August 6, at 7:00 PM, at the welcoming Alikianou High School, inviting the public to experience an innovative creative process up close.

The event is being held within the framework of the non-profit organization “The Periplus Project”, with the multifaceted support of the Municipality of Platanias, the Region of Crete, the Botanical Garden of Crete, the Alikianou High School, as well as local businesses and citizens. The goal is to highlight the unlimited possibilities that creativity offers in intellectual and professional development, connecting tradition with the future of innovation in Crete.
