Region of Crete | The creation of a cultural route of the Olive Tree is promoted
The Region of Crete, in a strategic move to highlight the cultural heritage of the island, is proceeding with the submission of a file to the Council of Europe in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, for the creation of the “Cultural Route for the Culture of the Olive Tree”, based in Crete.
This important initiative was announced by the Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, emphasizing that it is the fruit of close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. The initiative is expected to take on an international character, with the participation of many countries.
The main objective of the project is the comprehensive promotion of the culture surrounding the olive tree, focusing, among other things:
• On the unique qualitative characteristics of its products.
• On the intangible culture and traditions associated with it.
• On the historical monuments that testify to its timeless importance.
• In the development of a network of targeted actions.
The Regional Governor expressed his optimism for the successful outcome of the candidacy, stating: “This development constitutes a very great opportunity for all of Crete and for all of Greece. We believe that we will succeed in this, in order to highlight all these qualitative characteristics, the culture of the olive tree and our monuments.”
The emergence of Crete as the headquarters of the route will significantly enhance the visibility of the island and the country, placing it at the core of a European network of culture and sustainable development.
