The 4th National Meeting of Reading Clubs is scheduled to take place in Ioannina on December 6–7, co-organized by the association “Friends of Epikeina Chora” and the Regional Unit of Ioannina, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Ioannina. This year’s theme is “The Epirus Landscape in Contemporary Modern Greek Literature”, exploring it as memory, border, and source of inspiration.
Six authors from Epirus will present works reflecting the region’s unique identity: Sotiris Dimitriou (“Sky from Other Lands”), Vasilis Gouroyannis (“Tales of Paranormal Phenomena”), Ismini Karyotaki (“I Was Not a Fugitive”), Michalis Makropoulos (“The Black Water”), Dimitra Louka (“Mouta and Other Stories”), and Christos Gezos (“Lost Needle”). Theoretical insights on contemporary Epirus literature will be offered by philologist and University of Ioannina lecturer Kostas Karavidas.
Cultural Impact and Networking Opportunities
The event strengthens Ioannina’s presence in high-quality cultural programming, promotes local contemporary literature, and enhances the region’s cultural identity. It also provides a platform for networking among reading clubs across Greece, facilitating the exchange of best practices and the planning of joint initiatives.
Economic Benefits
The meeting attracts visitors, supporting the local economy, including hotels, restaurants, and retail businesses, while fostering a broader interest in reading and contemporary Greek literature.
