During the regular IMF bi-weekly press briefing, the IMF spokesman repeated the Fund’s view that an agreement on the debt front can be reached soon.
Asked about the message echoed by the new Eurogroup chief, who had suggested that debt restructuring talks will begin only after the program has been concluded, the IMF spokesman sought to downplay the gap of views between the EU and the IMF with respect to the timing of debt talks.
On that regard, Mr. Murray reiterated that the Fund remains committed to working closely with the EU so as to arrive at a positive outcome on the debt front “soon”.
