Minister: Athens metro extension completed in Agia Varvara section

More than half of the project to extend the Athen sMetro to the port of Piraeus has been implemented, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis announced on Friday during a visit to the site of the new Agia Varvara station, which has not opened yet, ANA reports.

The Minister said that 60% of the extension to Piraeus has been implemented, and 98% of the tunnel has been dug out. “I believe that we will be able to visit very soon other stations as well – including Agia Varvara – where work has been completed,” he said.

The current Line 3 (blue line) will extend another 7.6 km to suburbs and landmarks of Piraeus port’s region, with stops at Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nikea, Maniatika, (central) Piraeus, and the Municipal Theater of Piraeus.
