With occupancy rates reaching 90%-95% since the beginning of August, the hotel industry in Volos and Pelion hopes that this will translate into a positive financial result this year.
Speaking to the “Magnesia Post Office”, the president of the Hoteliers’ Association, Giorgos Zafeiris, stressed that the high occupancy rates are accompanied by a high level of booking activity, even at the last minute. Pelion, thanks to its unparalleled natural beauty, is attracting travelers from all over Greece this year as well as from foreign markets, such as Germany, France, Italy and the Czech Republic.
Mr. Zafeiris expressed the hope that the positive picture will continue in September, so as to reduce losses from the sluggish movement of the May-June period. “With two good months you can save the lot,” he said characteristically, emphasizing that extending the season is a key issue.
Despite the good performance of July and August, hoteliers remain cautious, as the overall duration of the tourist season and the dispersion of traffic over the year are still key issues for the viability of businesses.
September, as the president of the Union notes, will largely determine whether this year will end positively or whether the losses from the low start will leave their mark on the financial results of the industry.
