Mallorca: Day of smiles and hospitality for tourists

Mallorca will thank its visitors with a special action. The Balearic Islands Merchants’ Federation (AFEDECO) joins forces with the #ThanksForVisitingMallorca campaign of the Mallorcan Hoteliers’ Federation (FEHM) and launches its own initiative to express the gratitude of local commerce to tourists.

On February 27th, AFEDECO member stores – as well as those that are not members and wish to participate – will offer every visitor who makes a purchase in a local store a reusable bag with the campaign message. According to the organizers, this bag is not just a practical gift, but a small symbol of hospitality, inviting the visitor to fill it with local products, souvenirs and beautiful experiences from the island.

The president of AFEDECO, Joana Manresa, emphasized:

“We want every tourist who arrives in Mallorca to feel welcome, to know that their presence is important to us and that local commerce appreciates them. The bag is a symbol of hospitality and the experience we want to offer: walks through our streets, discovering small shops, contact with people and a piece of our land that they will take with them.”

The event, entitled “Smile Day for the Tourist”, will be held simultaneously in various emblematic places on the island. In addition to offering the bags, the initiative aims to send a message to the local community about the importance of a balanced tourism model that meets the needs of Mallorca today.

Manresa stressed that this action is more than just participating in a campaign:

“Mallorca is an island open to the world. Every visitor who passes through our ports or airports brings stories, cultures and smiles that enrich our society. In times when the dialogue on tourism is becoming more difficult, we want to remind everyone that the visitor is part of our history and future.”

AFEDECO invites all traders and residents to join the celebration and share photos and welcoming messages on social networks with the hashtag #ElDiaDeLaSonrisaAlTurista.

“Together we can make this campaign more than a slogan: a movement that reinforces the image of Mallorca as a welcoming, multicultural and warm destination,” concludes Ms. Manresa’s statement.
