Chios Pass for 2026 with special provision for Amani

A series of decisions for the relief of residents affected by the major fire in Northwest Chios were taken in the video conference of the Mayor of Chios, Ioannis Malafis, with the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Kostas Katsafados, in the presence of the MP of Chios, Notis Mitarakis.

Among the measures, the inclusion of the Chios Pass for 2026 stands out, with special care for the area of Amani, which was particularly affected by the flames. At the same time, the Municipality secured funding of 3 million euros for the restoration of the water network and other infrastructure, while an additional support of 500,000 euros is foreseen in a second year.

The video conference also decided:

The completion of compensation applications by September 8.
The possibility for those with homes classified as “red” or “yellow” to rent a new home from tomorrow with a state rent subsidy of €300 to €500, depending on the composition of the household.
The completion of autopsies by August 24, so that payments can begin immediately.
The recording of damage to businesses by regional teams.
The exemption of those affected from ENFIA.
Additional funding due to insularity to cover increased transportation and rehabilitation costs in remote areas, with an emphasis on Amani.
Targeted measures to support businesses to protect jobs and avoid economic decline.
The Mayor of Chios emphasized that support for residents must be immediate and comprehensive, with rapid compensation for households, farmers, livestock breeders and beekeepers, but also with strengthening the local infrastructure that was destroyed by the fire.
