Three new measures aimed at facilitating the search for housing and “opening” more properties to the market, were presented by the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, speaking on the show “Good Morning Greece” on ANT1.
The new provisions will be included in the bill that will be submitted for approval to tomorrow’s Council of Ministers. Among other things, they provide:
The tax exemption for families with many children will not be limited to apartments with an area of 120 sq m. It will increase by 20 sq m for more than two children. That is, to 140 sq m. for a third child, to 160 sq m. for a fourth child, etc.
Special categories of public servants (teachers, doctors, nurses, uniformed personnel) are exempt from the obligation of a three-year rental contract. With the changes adopted, property owners will be able to rent properties to specific public officials even with a six-month contract, without losing the benefit of the three-year tax exemption.
Property owners will not lose the tax exemption even if the tenant “breaks” the three-year contract before its expiration, provided that a new tenant is found within three months.
Explaining the rationale for the three new changes, Mr. Pierrakakis clarified that the entire effort aims to open closed properties and make them available on the market.
