Greek authorities have begun gradually moving refugees away from the port of Piraeus, where they have set up an informal camp after the borders with FYROM closed.
The first wave of departures from Piraeus will see 38 Syrian families – about 300 people – moved to a former tourist resort in Kyllini, which has been provided by the local mayor to shelter refugees. Reports suggest that the refugees were convinced to board the buses to Kyllini after talks with the local mayor, who hails from Syria.
A further 700 Afghan refugees are expected to be transferred to the new camp that is being set in Eleonas area in Attica.
