A series of strike actions is being planned to take place in Greece after the Easter holidays, when the controversial tax and pension system reform bill is to be debated in Parliament.
The country’s largest public and private sector trade unions, ADEDY and GSEE, are planning a 48-hour strike. The nationwide seamen federation PNO has also made a similar decision.
Farmers are also considering a demonstration in Athens, as revealed by farming unionist Evangelos Boutas who was a leading figure in the recent farmer strikes and protests.
The local government employee union POE-OTA has announced that it will carry out strike actions as of 5 May, such as occupied municipal offices and facilities, in response to the bill.
Further strike actions are also expected to be announced by employees in the media, lawyers, pensioners, engineers and other sectors.
