A wildfire raging for a second day in a forest area near an old landfill on the island of Samos, in the eastern Aegean, has been placed under control, but small pockets of flames remain, a spokesman for the fire department said on Saturday.
Ninety firefighters with 33 firefighting vehicles, backed by 50 volunteers from neighbouring municipalities, a land unit of 90 people, seven helicopters and 6 aircraft have been deployed, he said, adding that more manpower is expected in the afternoon.
The flames are far from residential areas.
The fire department also said a second fire on the island of Andros was place under control earlier today.
