All three fires that broke out over the course of the afternoon in different parts of Corfu on Friday have been brought under control, the head of the local fire department told ANA-MPA.
Efthimis Georgakopoulos said fire fighters and the two aircraft sent to assist managed to contain the flames after four hours, despite the strong winds hampering their efforts.
“The wildfires that broke out in the areas of Linia in Chlomos, the area of Barbati, but also the area of Strongyli have been brought under control, while first estimations show about 30,000 square meters of farmland have been burned,” he said.
