The new actions of the Economy Ministry aim at stopping highly qualified young people from going abroad, Deputy Economy Minister Alexis Charitsis said in an interview with Real News on Sunday.
Asked on how the government will be judged over the next period, he replied: “The government will be judged as to the fulfillment of the objectives set. The main objective is the reconstruction of the Greek economy on terms of fair and sustainable growth.”
The areas where there is room for social policy is the improvement of public health and public education “after the continuous depreciation in previous years and significant work has already been done in these areas.”
Priority for the coming period will be to support and reform primary health care, which will be funded primarily by the NSRF funds, the deputy minister said. On education, Charitsis stressed that “out of the ten years of operation of the programme for kindergartens, this was the year that they received the most money (175 million euros) and most places (85,000), while after the restructuring of the programme all families below the poverty line are entitled to the programme. Moreover, everything was for the first time prepared in time to secure the funds (350 million euros) to recruit the 21,000 extra teachers need so that schools open normally in September.”
