Boloved Greek television actor Giorgos Vasiliou has reportedly passed away at the age of 66 on Tuesday morning, following a long battle against cancer. Vasiliou was born in June 1950 and raised in his native Lamia. He later studied at the Drama school of Giorgos Bellos and got married in 1973.
In the early 1990s he met director Nikos Foskolos and was cast as “Brigadier Stathis Theoharis” in the daily television series Kalimera Zoi (“Good morning life”). During his career he starred next to some of the most important figures in Greek theater, such as Thanasis Vegos, Rena Vlachopoulou and others.
In 2004 he turned to politics and was elected MP with New Democracy. After his term concluded in 2007, he focused on theater and television productions. For the past 12 years he had been living with his wife in Salamina. He is survived by his wife and two children.
