Turkish tourists formed long queues outside a house in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, where the founder of the modern Turkish state, Mustafa Kemal, is believed to have been born. The large tourist groups, mainly from Andrianopolis, Marmara and Constantinople, are visiting the house-shrine commemorating the day of Kemal’s death on November 10. According to Thessnews.gr most of the visitors are adults and students who traveled to Thessaloniki in organised groups.
Over the past two years 3-4,000 Turkish tourists had arrived during the two-day celebrations of Kemal’s death. Mayor of Thessaloniki has come under a lot of criticism by many for promoting Mustafa Kemal, who was responsible for the Armenian and Greek genocide in the 20th century.
