Nicosia’s Fire Authorities have been busy over the past 24 hours having dealt with large fires in Lakatamia and Kokkinotrimithia, while in Paphos a potentially deadly fire was stopped before it could happen.
LAKATAMIA BLAZE
In Lakatamia, six vehicles were set ablaze at a car repair shop on Champs Elysees Street.
Lakatamia Fire Services received the call at around 10pm and sent three trucks to put out the large blaze, eventually extinguishing it by 10:25pm, according to an official announcement.
Two vehicles suffered “extensive damage” while the remaining four suffered “serious damage” but were reparable, added the statement.
Lakatamia authorities are investigating.
KOKKINOTRIMITHIA BLAZE
A fire broke out at around 3am Wednesday morning inside a furniture factory located within Kokkinotrimithia’s industrial area.
According to an official announcement, Kokkinotrimithia Fire Services responded to the call at around 03:10am.
Five fire trucks were sent to battle the blaze but were unable to save the factory from being completely burned down.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire and ensure it did not extend to an adjacent aluminium factory aluminium.
It wasn’t until two hours later, at 05:08am, that the blaze was finally extinguished.
Kokkinotrimithia authroties are investigating.
PAPHOS WARNING
Paphos Police were on high alert after a vehicle owner’s complaint that at 5:20am he noticed a tank filled with gasoline placed under his vehicle.
The 42-year-old said he spotted the tank under the car just before he entered it.
According to police, the perpetrators immediately fled after placing the tank. The vehicle’s owner told police that he did not suspect any particular people, however, he did admit that he has some “economic differences” with some individuals, reported SigmaLive Greek.
Police also announced that they believe the perpetrators placed the tank as a warning.
