Home searches by tax inspectors will now be allowed in Greece in the presence of a court bailiff and following the issuance of a warrant by a relevant prosecutor, a prospect that up-until-recently was unheard of.
The “green light” for such inspections is detailed in a circular issued by the finance ministry’s general secretariat for public revenues. The circular cites legal changes in the tax code, which were included in a bill aimed to combat the trade in bootleg tobacco products.
