Refugee children and their families living in the camp of Koutsohero, near Larisa, enjoyed a festive event on Wednesday when visiting Santa Claus distributed presents, toys and traditional “melomakarona” sweets.
The event was organized by the municipality of Larisa as part of its efforts to spread some holiday cheer among the residents of the camp which houses more than 220 children and their families since November.
“This city supports and will support tomorrow some basic human values and some basic principles that have to do with the protection of children’s rights,” the Larisa’s deputy mayor on social policy Dimitris Deliyiannis said during the festivities. “These days are for the children. They are festive days and we continue to support their right to knowledge, education and laughter after the horror of war they experienced.”
