Panteion University professor Angelos Syrigos was rushed to hospital after he was assaulted and beaten just outside the university on Wednesday afternoon. The attack was carried out on Syngrou Avenue at 14:00, by unidentified individuals who then fled the scene.
Syrigos, an associate professor of international law and foreign policy, was admitted to the Asklipiio Hospital in Voula, where police later visited to investigate the incident.
Commenting on the attack “by marginal elements,” Greece’s main opposition New Democracy party expressed its strongest condemnation and said it was “yet another incident of violence that makes the citizens not feel safe.”
“We call on the police to act promptly to locate and prosecute the offenders. We call, above all, on the euphemistically named Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Toskas to assume his responsibilities,” the party announcement added.
