Greek police arrest trafficker for trying to smuggle migrants

Policemen from Soufli’s border department, near the Turkish border, arrested on Friday a human trafficker who tried to smuggle 19 migrants into Greece with two accomplices, one of whom is a 43-year-old Georgian national.

The officers stopped three cars moving on a rural road and signaled them to stop. Two of the drivers stopped the cars and ran out towards a forested area, avoiding arrest. The 20-year-old Greek national driving the third vehicle didn’t stop and tried to escape but was eventually arrested. Inside the cars, police found the 19 migrants.

Police are looking for the third man who disappeared. The Greek man was led before the prosecutor in Alexandroupolis who charged him additionally for resisting arrest.
