23,649 refugees arrived on Aegean islands since EU-Turkey agreement

A total of 23,649 migrants and refugees arrived on the northern Aegean islands from 20 March 2016 (beginning of the implementation of EU-Turkey agreement) until 17 March 2017.

11,542 of them arrived on Lesvos, 7,751 on Chios and 4,356 on Samos island.

8,399 of them have sought for asylum in Greece and are still expecting their request to be examined.

Moreover, 749 persons that had waived their right for asylum or their requests have been rejected were re-admitted to Turkey.
