The General Confederation of Employees of Greece (GSEE) and the civil servants’ union federation ADEDY – between them representing the majority of Greece’s unionised workers – on Thursday reached a joint decision to hold a 24-hour general strike on May 17 which is expected to affect travel.
The decision was made at a meeting held at GSEE’s headquarters, with ADEDY and other social organisations.
The general strike is held in protest against the “unfair and harsh measures” that the government is preparing to vote for and implement. Trade unionists also clarified that if the date for voting in the measures is brought forward, the date of the strike will be rescheduled.
Tourists who plan to travel that day are advised to contact their travel agents and all relevant authorities for further information.
