The Association of Passenger Ship Operators called on the Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) on Wednesday to suspend their two 48-hour rolling strikes, saying they are creating serious problems in the transport of passengers and freight to and from the islands.
The two strikes started on Tuesday morning and will end at midnight on Friday (May 19). In a press release, the operators’ association said the strikes could hurt tourism revenues.
“We’re in the tourism period and millions of our fellow citizens are hoping to earn their livelihoods in a difficult economic situation for the country,” it said. “The inability to transport passengers and cargo for four whole days in this crucial time for tourism and the economy should be avoided,” it added.
