Athens-Thessaloniki rail line closed after goods train gets off tracks

The railway line between Athens and Thessaloniki was closed down on Saturday after a goods trail derailed in the Sperchios area early in the morning. Two passenger trains, one in Bralos that was bound for Thessaloniki and one in Lianokladi that was bound for Athens, were unable to complete their journeys as a result. 

Some 550-600 passengers trapped on board each of the two trains continued their journey on buses, while the line is expected to reopen late in the afternoon. During that time, passengers will continue a part of their journey on buses.
