Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stressed the need to protect the Christian communities now under threat throughout the world and in the Middle East, in his intervention on Monday at the International Conference ‘Religious and Cultural Pluralism and Peaceful Co-existence in the Middle East’ in Athens.
Szijjarto praised the initiative undertaken by the Greek foreign ministry and his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias, calling on the EU and international organisations to mobilise in order to protect Christian communities throughout the world.
He expressed his view that the Church of Syria and the Christian communities in the Middle East should be financially supported and the population encouraged to not abandon their lands.
The Hungarian foreign minister also had a bilateral meeting with Kotzias before the start of the conference.
