Citizen Protection Minister: Greece is a safe and stable country

Greece is a safe country and this is why many tourists choose it, Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Toskas stressed on Saturday in a speech at the 1st Athens Security Symposium, held at the Hellenic Armed Forces Officers Club in Athens.

“Greece is a safe and stable country and this is why millions of tourists prefer it, while there are many good indications on investments,” he noted.

“The issue of security has become dominant. Our world is becoming more and more unpredictable and insecure,” he underlined, adding that it is an issue larger than Greece but affects it due to its location, the instability in neighboring countries and the wave of migration.

“I do not link migratory waves with terrorism. Most people who come [to Greece] are looking for better living conditions. They are not terrorists,” he added.

The conference, held by the Center for Security Studies (KE.ME.A) is the first devoted exclusively to security issues. The emphasis this year was on the new threats and challenges emanating from the Middle East and North-Africa (MENA), their repercussions on European and Greece’s security and the strategies international actors and regional organizations should develop for tackling those challenges.
