1,681 foreign nationals illegally in Greece sent back to their countries

Greek authorities sent 1,681 foreign nationals that had entered the country illegally back to their countries of origin in November, police announced on Friday.

The repatriations were carried out through the voluntarily repatriation programmes of the International Migration Organisation, as well as via forcible and voluntarily departures carried out by the Greek police.

The greatest number of repatriations were to Albania (1,009 persons), followed by Pakistan (185), Iraq (76), Georgia (63), Algeria (50), Iran (30), Afghanistan (24) and Turkey (19).

There were court decisions against all the third-country nationals involved, ordering their immediate extradition and repatriation for illegal entry into Greece.

A total of 17,684 persons have been sent back to their countries of origin since the beginning of 2017.
