Excavators bring illegal shops crashing down in Greek island of Mykonos (video)

Video cameras have caught the moment an excavator moved in to demolish shops in Mykonos island built without permission.

Backed by local police and city planners, the buildings in the Psarros beach area were brought crashing down.

Their removal comes as the party island gears up for another great tourist season. The stores are often thrown up to sell clothes, jewelry, and accessories to the hordes of visitors who throng the Mykonos’ beaches in the summer months.

Nevertheless, a recent audit found a number of premises did not have the required planning permissions so were deemed illegal, leading to fines and demolitions.
