It’s only the first week of summer, yet a heatwave is already expected to hit Greece as of today, where temperatures will rise as high as 40 degrees Celsius.
According to Greek meteorologists, from today through to Saturday many regions around the nation are expecting temperatures in the late 30’s.
The areas expected to see the highest temperatures include- Thessaly, Pedina, Fthiotida and Boeotia, Lakonia, Messinia, Ilia, Aigia, Preveza, Crete and islands of the eastern and southeastern Aegean while temperatures for other parts of Greece will be around 34 to 35 degrees.
According to the National Observatory of Athens, the rise in temperatures is due to hot air coming in from Africa that will first affect the south and western parts of the country before gradually moving to the rest of Greece.
