Greek firefighters find looted Classical antiquities in Locris area

The fire brigade discovered over 200 looted and hidden Classical-era antiquities after putting out a fire in the Locris prefecture, on mainland Greece, the Culture Ministry announced on Friday, ANA reports.

According to the ministry, the fire broke out midday on Thursday (June 7) in the Profitis Ilias area north of Megaplatanos village and south of Livanates. The discovery was made by the fire brigade and its emergency squad (EMAK), the ministry noted.

“The ancient objects were found hidden in bushes over a 150m area, in plastic bags. Some of the clay objects had soot on them, while most were undamaged by the fire due to the timely intervention of the fire brigade,” it added.
