“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” star Nia Vardalos, has confirmed she has filed for divorce from her husband Ian Gomez, after 25 years of matrimony.
It comes as reports note that the Greek American Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated writer and actress, filed divorce documents in an L.A. County court on Tuesday, requesting both joint legal and physical custody.
Nia and Ian married in 1993 and have one daughter together, Ilaria Vardalos Gomez who is eleven years old. Irreconcilable differences was mentioned as the reason for the split.
“We’ve been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time. Our relationship became a friendship so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable,” the couple noted in a statement to E! News. “It is our hope that decency will prevail on the reporting of this story which will soon be yesterday’s news. Thank you for respecting our privacy.”
