BabyCentre, a leading baby blog, has recently compiled the 100 most popular names with Greek origin, to assist parents who are looking for name ideas for their little prince or princess.
It is Greek tradition to name your child or children after your parents or grandparents, which is considered a gesture of respect, honour, and love. This tradition is followed differently by people depending on personal preference. Sometimes the first born baby is named after the father’s parents or grandparents regardless of whether the baby is a boy or girl or sometimes the baby boy is named after the husband’s father or grandfather and the firstborn girl is named after the wife’s mother or grandmother, passing down the names from one generation to the next.
Today though, some parents elect to use their parents or grandparents names as the child’s middle name or decide on a name that has no family connection.
